Jim Blissitt III is an author, poet, musician, actor and intellectual raised in Chicago in the Englewood community. At a very young age Jim had a great enthusiasm for words. He was exposed to oratorical competitions in elementary school, where his passion for rhetoric began. He believes that the gift of voice has been as the trumpet has been unto the greatest of trumpet players, it is his instrument. During his time at Alabama A&M University, he completely broke out of his shell and nurtured the voice and persona within. While completing his Bachelors degree at Alabama A&M University, he served as the Vice President of the AAMU Poetry Club, affectionately known as “P.C.”  P.C. has spawned so many great artists since its inception nearly 20 years ago.  While serving with P.C., Jim published his first book, along with other artists of P.C., entitled “Rhyme for Reasons”.  He also served as the editor and publisher of his self-published book, titled “The First Theory”, which captures the words, emotions and stories of his journey.  His experiences with P.C. allowed him to perform before so many great individuals, including Congressman John Lewis, Mayor Tommy Battle, media figure Basheer Jones, Tavis Smiley and countless others. In 2010, Jim launched and hosted a show on Southern University’s Web Radio Station, “The Bluff”. The show was entitled “The Poetic Cypher”. This opportunity allowed him the fortune to have interviewed an array of artists and poets in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans region. In March 2012, Jim was asked to come back to Alabama A&M University to open for Minister Louis Farrakhan at a P.C. sponsored event.  Jim is in current pursuit of his Masters of Sociology at DePaul University, where his focus is Urban Sociology, he is examining the African American artistic aesthetic and how it has influenced the African American struggle towards freedom. In August of 2012, Jim established The New Cypher Spoken Word Charter, LLC. This company was founded to promote artists and artistic expression through the medium of open–mics, encouraging critical pedagogy.  He strives to invoke “Character, Compassion, Connectedness, Commitment, Competence and Confidence”
